Note from Chase the Music founder:

    Welcome!

You’re working on producing a piece of music, for a special child, or maybe a group of great kids. This is the beginning of something truly meaningful.

We want you to have a great experience as you work with Chase the Music. We hope this document gives you some ideas on how to make the best of your efforts.

    Have fun.

Get to know the child / children. They’re great people, and really fun to spend time with. Talk with them. Hear their stories. Cry with their parents, but laugh with the kids.

Sometimes it’s difficult.  People cry. That’s ok. It’s a good cry.

Let them know how much you care.

    Play with all your heart.

    Hugs are great.

If you are looking for more information, help, or just have questions – see the website

Unless otherwise agreed to, music will be licensed to Chase the Music.  You, or your group leader will have the licensing agreements.

Share the music, share the story.

Music with feeling, music for healing.

And after this event, continue to forever “Chase the Music”!

So, quickly – let’s produce a Chase the Music event.

These are the main components, and they can be selected in any order:

Your responsibility is to deliver to the child a quality Chase the Music experience.  This guide is merely a set of suggestions on how to best do that.

At all times, interest in the child is paramount.  Comfort, safety, privacy, enjoyment, pride, sharing are all things to be considered.

Your are responsible for bringing together a number of pieces to deliver your Chase the Music gift.

    Production Summary:

A Chase the Music production is an event to provide an original piece of music to a child battling a critical condition. The song is written just for the child and is meant to be a truly meaningful gift.

There are 6 main components to any Chase the Music production:

    ·      The child (or in some cases children)

    ·      The songwriter / composer

    ·      The performer(s)

    ·      The song

    ·      The venue

    ·      The performance

    The Child:

The child is someone battling a critical condition. A critical condition can be anything from a severe disease, cancer, birth defect, major injury, or major crisis. There are no ‘official guidelines’ on the age of a child – from birth to age 21 is a rough guide.

    The songwriter / composer

This can be anyone with heart and talent. See the songwriters / composers guide. (*** also in process – though it’s pretty simple).

    The performer(s)

Again, there are no rules. This can be a soloist (as is often the case for singer/songwriters)

    The Song

The Chase the Music song is written specifically for and about the child(ren) of the event. It is important for the songwriter to get to know the child – to be able to write a song with real meaning and heart for the child.

    The Venue

    The performance

There are two main types of performances.

    ·      A Chase the Music event, where all of the songs are selected for the child, and the one original piece is performed. It is really all focused on the child (sometimes a group of children in a similar situation).

    ·      An existing event by the performing group. In this case the performing group is making the Chase the Music song a part of an already scheduled and managed production.

    Details matter!

    Promotion

Promotion varies depending on the event. It can be absolutely nothing, as in the case where it’s a private event, with limited attendees. It may be supplemental – when it’s a performer produced event. Or it may be a significant effort, in a Chase the Music produced event in a venue with significant amounts of seating.

    Ticketing

Generally for a Chase the Music produced event. For a performer produced event – they are in charge and responsible for ticketing. Chase the Music only asks that an adequate number of tickets for the family, and a group of friends, be provided without charge – so that the event is not a burden

    1) An event dedicated to just the child.  Here all of the music is selected, arranged and performed for the child.  One original song is to be written specifically for the child.  Example of this was the performances w/ BCP – Chito / Kati.

    2) An event where the child’s song is part of a larger event.  Other songs are performed, but not related to the Chase the Music composition, nor the child.  Examples of this are Thomas, Lauren.

    2) An event where the child’s song is part of a larger event.  Other songs are performed, but not related to the Chase the Music composition, nor the child.  Examples of this are Thomas, Lauren.

This document is for CTM production coordinators and their teams.  It should be used as a guide to a production.  Nothing is set in stone, and part of our ethos is ‘do what’s right’.  So, if it’s not covered, or is something different – if it’s right – do it.  If you want an opinion or outside input – feel free to message us at CTM HQ.

    Working with the family

In general – we just say to be respectful and sensitive. We don’t want to be an added stressor to the family, we just want to give them a wonderful gift. ity to issues

Sensitivity to release of private information – see legal release form.

In general, we ask for the ability to release and use the following information about the child / family:

    First name of the child

    City/State

    Affliction, and status

    Rough information of treatment plan

Activities summary of child (in school, likes to play soccer, likes to read…)

Story of the child (how long have they had affliction, what changes has it made to their lives…)

    Photos of the child

There is a legal release (separate document) for the childs parents / guardian to sign.

    Events

    1) An event dedicated to just the child.  Here all of the music is selected, arranged and performed for the child.  One original song is to be written specifically for the child.  Example of this was the performances w/ BCP – Chito / Kati.

    2) An event where the child’s song is part of a larger event.  Other songs are performed, but not related to the Chase the Music composition, nor the child.  Examples of this are Thomas, Lauren.

Anything you can do, to get to know the child, situation, family, that can be passed onto the composer and musicians.  The musical talent wants to KNOW this child!  They want to really feel the energy that is the child.  The more you do here, the better the composition and performance will be.

Note – when a significant number of the child’s friends & families come from a common place (i.e. their school, hospital floor, etc), it may be beneficial to the performance to ensure that that organization is included somehow.  For example, you may dedicate the performance to the group, and of course the original composition is dedicated to the individual child.

    Group compositions

There are cases, where it is appropriate to dedicate the performance to a group of children.  This may be the case if

Even in cases of very sad (death, attempted suicide), life of a child is a happy …  Can’t think of an instance where you’d want a morbid sad piece (unless it tranforms…)
